Girls In Trade
Construction is the third largest employing industry in Australia, with more than one million workers (9% of national employment). The vast majority of workers are males who are employed full-time. Females have a low share of Construction industry employment (just 11% compared with 46% across all industries) and 14% of workers are employed part-time.
While the building and construction industry offers over 30 trades in apprenticeship and traineeships, the most popular trades among girls and women are bricklaying, cabinetmaking, carpentry and joinery, electrician, glass cutting and glazing, landscaping, painting and decorating, plumbing, shopfitting and stonemasonry.
